Lower Level 3 Library and Art Gallery Society (AGS)

AGNSW with Tonkin Zulaihka Greer architects remodelled the entire Lower Level 3 (LL3) by converting the Yiribana Gallery and Yiribana offices into a major library. As part of the remodeling works, the Art Gallery Society (AGS) was also modernized by introducing the existing external atrium as an internal area, a mirror of the southern end of the building where the double height atrium formed part of the library. Engtecā€™s involvement included the total redesign of the mechanical services serving the lower level 3 to accommodate the revised use of the space whilst still maintaining gallery standard indoor conndtions within certain zones. The works also included revising the smoke control system and upgrading the electrical services and distribution.

Central Plant and BMS Upgrade

The protection of the artifact's and paintings within the gallery and storage facilities in AGNSW building is credited to the central plant that operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week to maintain fine temperature and humidity levels in accordance with International Gallery Standards and BIZOT. The entire 4MW central plant inclusive of chillers, cooling towers, reticulation pumps and operating strategies was upgraded to provide a renewed plant lifecycle offering higher performance and efficiency. The upgrade and change over had to occur on a live site ensuring conditions within the internal areas were not disturbed throughout the works.

The $1.65M upgrade provided 650MWh savings in power per annum, $140,000 annual savings on energy with an estimated 12,000 Energy Saving Certificates (ESCs)

Lower Level ONE (LL1)

AGNSW with Tonkin Zulaihka Greer architects repurposed the lower level one (LL1) library and archives area into a modern open plan office space and other specialized areas. The works on the LL1 extended to upgrading amenities such as bathrooms, changerooms, lunchroom and back of house areas.
